Adam Lucas has served as the Athletic Trainer at Eastern View High School since November 2021. In addition to providing comprehensive athletic healthcare for EVHS student-athletes, he teaches Sports Medicine I and II and oversees the Athletic Training Student Aide Program, helping students gain hands-on experience in the field of sports medicine.
Mr. Lucas earned his Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Shenandoah University in 2015 and his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Old Dominion University in 2013. A Hampton Roads native, he has lived in Northern Virginia since 2017 and currently resides in Culpeper County with his wife and two children.
Prior to joining Eastern View High School, Mr. Lucas worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for four years and served as a Head Athletic Trainer in New Bern, North Carolina, for two years.

Sports Medicine Courses for Students
Sports Medicine I (Offered in Fall Semesters Only)
In this course, students earn a certification in First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automatic external defibrillator (AED). The course introduces students to topics such as human anatomy and physiology, nutrition, medical terminology, injuries and illnesses, and legal and ethical issues in sports medicine. Students will learn and demonstrate emergency care, taping and wrapping of injuries, and apply other hands-on skills for treating injury. Students also examine prospective careers in the sports medicine field. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to take Sports Medicine II and pursue industry certification as a personal trainer. Contextual instruction and student participation in co-curricular career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities will develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students’ career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.
Students must be at least a rising Junior prior to applying to this course.

Sports Medicine IIÂ (Offered in Spring Semesters Only)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the National Academy of Sports Medicine-Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT) exam. This course builds upon basic knowledge acquired in Sports Medicine I on topics such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise program design, and injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and management. Students prepare for a career in sports medicine, including completing an internship. Contextual instruction and student participation in co-curricular career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities will develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) will provide experiential learning opportunities related to students’ career goals and/or interests, integrated with instruction, and performed in partnership with local businesses and organizations.

Students must be at least a rising Senior and have passed Sports Medicine I prior to applying to this course.
