What began as the first day of Eastern View High School golf tryouts quickly became a moment that will be remembered for far more than the game of golf.
While at the Country Club of Culpeper, overlooking a section of Lake Culpeper between holes 2 & 3 on the opening day of tryouts, three Eastern View student-athletes demonstrated exceptional courage, selflessness, and composure when they sprang into action after witnessing a family with their child in distress in the water.
Without hesitation, Jackson Castro (right), Gavin Cain (left), and Andrew Tuggle (middle) recognized that every second mattered. Acting on instinct and with remarkable bravery, the three students entered the lake to assist in rescuing the drowning victims. Their quick thinking and willingness to help played a critical role in bringing both individuals safely back to shore.
In moments of crisis, character is revealed. These young men exemplified the values that Eastern View High School strives to instill in every student-athlete: courage, leadership, compassion, and a commitment to serving others before themselves.
Athletics often teach perseverance, teamwork, and preparation for adversity. On this day, those lessons extended far beyond the golf course. Instead of competing for a spot on the team, these students united with a singular purpose—to save lives.

While the rescued individuals undoubtedly have their own story to tell, Eastern View High School recognizes that the heroic actions of Jackson Castro, Gavin Cain, and Andrew Tuggle deserve to be celebrated.
